校長的話 Principal Message

「學習」是教育的核心。中學教育為的是幫助學生裝備自我,面對未來。社會轉變急促,學校除了讓學生在德、智、體、群、美五育有均衡發展,幫助學生建立正確的價值觀外,不可止於知識與技術的傳遞,更重要的是培養學生獨立思考,著重邏輯與創意思維,有助他們面對知識型社會。

【禮記.中庸】提及為學之道,對於二十一世紀社會,實在合適不過:「博學之,審問之,慎思之,明辨之,篤行之。」現代社會瞬息萬變,對人的要求不斷提高,博學、審問、慎思、明辨、篤行這五個層次為裝備學生日後做人處事、回饋社會的必備質素。求取知識,惟有博大和寬容,才能相容並包,使為學具有世界眼光和開放胸襟,真正做到「海納百川,有容乃大」;其次是對所學的知識要追問到底;再次是深入思考研究課題;第四是對所學知識進行分辨明析,使所學越辨越明;最後是要將所學到的知識努力應用實踐。

呂中同學都有一句座右銘:I learn, I dream, I create my destiny. 我相信要使學生建立自我、衝破自我及不斷自學,以上為學之道五部曲可供借鏡。此外,成功的經驗也是不可或缺的。不同的孩子起步點有別,亦各有不同的潛能,只要因著他們的背景和需要加以支持、接納、扶助,孩子們都能茁壯成長。教師相信學生的可塑性,透過合適的課程設計、課堂策略、紀律培養、情感支援及對學生的合理期望等誘發及培育學生的潛能,讓學生有機會親嚐成功的滋味,使他們更有動力以更多的成功為目標,努力進發。

呂中向來注重優質課堂教學,師生關係緊密,並提供大量機會讓學生發揮所長,體驗成功。學校在學業成就、語文發展、粵劇教育、多元藝術、體育發展等均有驕人表現;結合教師、學生、家長、社區等各持分者的智慧和技術,共同參與學校的發展,相信定能承傳呂中的優良傳統,將 “I learn, I dream, I create my destiny”的精神發揚光大。

“Learning” is the core of education. Secondary education is to help students to equip themselves to face the future. Our society is changing rapidly. In addition to nurturing students to have balance development on moral, intellectual, physical, social and aesthetic aspects, and helping students to develop positive values, it is more important to train students’ independent thinking with emphasis on logic and creativity. This can help them to adapt to the knowledge-based society.

In the fast-changing world of the 21st century, we live our lives trying to fulfill the increasing expectations around us. When it comes to learning, there is an old Chinese saying in Liji – Doctrine of the Mean that one must study anything broadly, investigate it in detail, deliberate on it carefully, discern it clearly and practice it devotedly. It is of utmost importance to develop students’ ability to accomplish the above so that they would become good citizens who behave and make contributions to the society.

“We learn, we dream, we create our destiny” is the motto of LYC students. LYC students can learn from the old Chinese saying above to prepare themselves. On the other hand, the experience of success is indispensable. Children have different potentials. We should give them support and acceptance according to their backgrounds and needs. We believe that students’ potentials can be maximized through proper course design, class strategies, discipline training and emotional support. These measures can help them to experience success, motivating them to reach their goals.

Quality teaching and the positive teacher-student relationship are the focus of LYC. With the aid of providing opportunities for students to put their strengths into practice, they can experience success. We have excellent achievement on different areas, including academic development, language development, sports development, Cantonese opera education and multicultural arts education. By integrating the wisdom and technique of teachers, students, parents and different groups in the community in school development, the tradition of LYC can be passed from generation to generation. The motto of LYC, “We learn, we dream, we create our destiny” can be made well-known as well.

校長的話

由真人真事改編的《五個小孩的校長》上映以來,好評如潮,除了是因為大小演員的精彩演出,更重要的是紀錄了呂校長如何給孩子帶來從人出發的基本教育,引起了社會各界對教育的反思。

我們相信造物者創造的每個人都是獨特的,有無可取代的價值,更有其獨特的潛能。學校按孩子不同的起步點和需要,為他們的個人成長、學業追求和價值觀的建立提供最適切的支援,再加上刻意營造的成功經驗,定能助他們建立自我、衝破自我,並朝著自己的目標,努力進發。

剛過去的二十周年校慶,老師、學生、家長、校友在各項儀式與活動中擔當了重要的角色,當中同學們的表現出色,嘉賓的讚賞不絕於耳。可我認為更精彩的,在於整個準備過程。數月以來,中西樂團、武術隊、合唱團艱苦的訓練,司儀隊、呂中大使、學生工作人員的認真預備,學生會、八社幹事、制服團隊、開放日各單位的同學從未鬆懈,處處體現了呂中人擁抱挑戰、追求卓越的精神。校慶活動告一段落,但看見同學的成長與過程中的得著,見證Cherish Learning, Nurture Youths, Embrace Challenges的主題得以延續。

本文執筆當日,正值第十屆校際英文演講比賽(The 10th Inter-Gavel Club & Youth Leadership Programme English Public Speaking Contest)的大日子。本校中四劉泓瑋同學以出色表現,在其他友校的強勁對手中脫穎而出,奪得冠軍。取得勝利固然值得高興,更令人欣賞的是劉同學積極備戰的態度和臨場鎮定且揮灑自如的發揮。其實從開學至今,眼見同學積極參加不同類型的校內活動和校外比賽,並取得優異成績。學校努力搭建不同的舞台,讓學生在台上閃耀發亮,有機會親嚐成功的滋味,在學習的過程中得到滿足感,就能儲備足夠的能量,面對未來社會的挑戰。

 

網上讀到的一段文字,與呂校長的故事給我們的啟發互相呼應:

教育的目的不是教會你多少知識,因為知識也會有錯誤的;

教育的目的也不是訓練你擁有多少能力,能力是會落伍的;

教育的目的應該是學會學習,學會生活,學會探索,學會成長。

想起本校合唱團在校慶典禮上獻唱 “You Raise Me Up”的歌詞:

You raise me up, so I can stand on mountains;

You raise me up, to walk on stormy seas;

I am strong, when I am on your shoulders;

You raise me up… To more than I can be.

教育,就是鼓舞與激勵,讓年輕人超越自我。
